House probe on LRT, MRT fare hikes set Thursday

MANILA, Philippines - The House of Representatives inquiry on the recently imposed fare hikes in the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) will start tomorrow.

House committee on transportation chairperson and Catanduanes Rep. Cesar Sarmiento said that since there is no particular government agency in charge of public transportation fare increases, it is time that lawmakers craft a measure regarding the matter.

Sarmiento added that the House investigations would be an eye-opener for lawmakers in regulating fares of the country's public transportation.

Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr.  said that the increase in LRT and MRT fares would lead to better service.

Implementation of projects maintenance and improvement projects of the train systems is set to start next month.
