Pinoy develops electric firecrackers

MANILA, Philippines - Here’s a safer and smarter, more practical way to welcome the New Year.

A Filipino inventor has developed a unique way of ringing in the New Year with a bang without lighting a firecracker – and it can even be reused.

Called “Elektro firecracker,” the device looks like a pipe bomb fashioned out of a PVC pipe but with protruding small tubes that serve as speakers for the blast.

The inventor, Francisco Pagayon, chairman of the Filipino Inventors Society Producers Cooperative (FISPC), said the Elektro firecracker would be a safer alternative to the traditional firecracker, especially for children.

“The firecracker blast is similar to that of a piccolo. You also have to light it up like a traditional firecracker,” Pagayon said.

Pagayon explained Elektro is basically an electrical firecracker.

“It is safe, economical, reusable and long-lasting,” he said.

Elektro, priced at P1,800, is available at the FISPC business center and showroom at the Delta Building at the corner of Quezon and West avenues in Quezon City.

“Although we are coming out with this already late, we want to offer this Elektro as we hope to save children from firecracker injuries and death,” Pagayon said.

He said the Elektro is long lasting since it can be reused every New Year and on special occasions.

“It’s safe for children. And you can use it in other New Year celebrations in the next years,” Pagayon said.
