Purisima urged to comply with suspension order
MANILA, Philippines - Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Alan Purisima was advised yesterday against contesting before the courts the Office of the Ombudsman’s order suspending him for six months.
Sen. Francis Escudero said Purisima is no exception since Senators Jinggoy Estrada, Juan Ponce Enrile and Ramon Revilla Jr. had to abide by the Sandiganbayan order suspending them for 90 days.
“Three senators were suspended, and we didn’t think twice,” he said in Filipino.
“As soon as the order became final, we immediately enforced it. If top elected officials have bowed to the court’s order, appointed officials must also respect and follow the court’s order.”
Escudero said an acting PNP chief must be named while Purisima remains suspended.
“Who would be signing vouchers or order the release of intelligence funds?” he asked.
Any late action from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the National Police Commission (Napolcom) would result in destabilization within the PNP, he added.
