Classes resume today

Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Classes in all levels resume today as Typhoon Ruby continues to weaken and move away from the country.

No class suspensions were announced by the Department of Education as of 5:30 p.m. yesterday.

Classes in all levels in Metro Manila and Regions 4-A (MIMAROPA) and 4-B (Calabarzon) were suspended on Monday and Tuesday due to the typhoon.

Guidelines on the automatic class suspensions said classes in kindergarten are automatically suspended when signal number 1 is declared, while classes up to high school are suspended in areas under signal number 2.

Classes in all levels are suspended when signal number 3 is declared.

Work at the city hall in Manila also resumes today, Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada said yesterday.

In a telephone interview with The STAR, Estrada said the more than 12,000 evacuees from the Baseco compound in Del Pan area, Parola I and II and Isla Puting Bato have returned to their homes.

“The city government took charge of their meals and other expenses while they were in different evacuation centers,” he said.

The evacuees were temporarily sheltered at the Baseco Evacuation Center, Benigno Aquino Elementary School, Corazon Aquino Elementary School and Baseco covered court.

SC resets session

The Supreme Court reset its regular session following the cancellation of work in government offices in Metro Manila last Monday due to the typhoon.

The session of the justices – the last for this year before they go into month-long holiday break – will be held today.

“Since there was no work last Monday, we did not have time to prepare the cases for deliberation of the justices,” a source said. – With Jose Rodel Clapano, Edu Punay
