SINGAPORE (Xinhua) - Singapore Red Cross will send a team of five to the Philippines to assist in the relief efforts for typhoon Hagupit, the aid organization said today.
The organization also said that it will contribute $15,152 to each of the Red Cross movement partners such as the Philippine Red Cross, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and the International Committee of the Red Cross. This leads to a total of $45,455.
Lim Theam Poh, deputy secretary general of the Singapore Red Cross, said that the organization is heartened by the positive response from members of the public to its operational updates.
"Let us do what we can to help our neighbors in need, especially in this season of giving," he said.
Authorities said that at least two people were killed in the typhoon, while the Red Cross said that at least 21 people were killed in central Philippines.
