Solon asks PAGCOR to fund titling of public schools

MANILA, Philippines - A lawmaker is seeking to mandate the Philippine Games and Amusement Corporation (PAGCOR) to fund the titling of public school sites.

Bulacan Rep. Gavino Pancho filed House Resolution 1652 which addresses the lack of proper legal documentation of lands used by the Department of Education (DepEd) as sites for public schools.

"There are also parcels of lands, which were verbally donated and similarly lack the proper legal documents to support the land transfer of ownership," Pancho said.

The lawmaker added that the death of land donors often result to court litigation due to heirs claiming ownership.

Some public schools are facing demolition with most of the reported cases pending in court.

Pancho said that PAGCOR, being an active partner of the government in nation-building programs, should support the mandatory titling and registration of said properties with the Registry of Deeds.

The resolution provides that the land title will be named under the DepEd.
