MANILA, Philippines -  More than 140 families have been displaced by the effects of the Tropical Depression Queenie in two regions of the country, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Thursday.

In its latest situational report, the NDRRMC said that almost 700 persons have been sheltered to seven evacuation centers in Region 10, particularly in Misamis Oriental, and Caraga region.

The NDRRMC reported that a total of nine houses were partially damaged by strong winds in the municipalities of  Socorro and General Luna, both in Surigao del Norte.

Classes have remained suspended in areas affected by Queenie, including Cebu City where classes in public schools in all levels are deferred, the NDRRMC added.

Meanwhile, the NDRRMC also said that over 2,000 passengers have been stranded in various ports affected by the bad weather.

The national government, through the Department of Social Welfare and Development, has shelled out more than P117 million worth of standby funds and stockpile in the affected areas.
