PNP gives over P26M to cops affected by Yolanda

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police (PNP) has allocated over P26 million in financial assistance to 10,132 policemen who were affected by super typhoon Yolanda last year.
 
Police Director Jaime Morente, PNP Director for Personnel and Records Management (DPRM), said P26.9 million worth of financial assistance was provided to PNP members who were directly affected when Yolanda struck Eastern Visayas November last year.
 
Morente said the financial assistance was sourced from donations from the Armed Forces and Police Savings and Loan Association Inc. (AFPSLAI), Public Safety Mutual Benefit Fund Inc (PSMBFI), Public Safety Savings and Loan Association Inc. (PSSLAI) and the PNP Provident Fund (PNPPF).
 
Morente said  235 policemen got financial assistance from the PNPPF and AFPSLAI, totaling P976,000.
 
A total of 5,521 beneficiaries, received financial assistance totaling P21 million donated by the PSMBFI while 4,376 other PNP beneficiaries each received P1,120  from a P4.9 million grant by PSSLAI.    
 
The PNP, through the Morale and Welfare Division of DPRM, has issued guidelines for PNP Yolanda victims who wish to avail of financial assistance.
 
Morente said, PNP personnel whose houses had been totally destroyed by Yolanda are entitled to P5,000  financial assistance, while those whose houses were partially damaged are entitled to P3,000.
 
The orphaned family members of police personnel who died in the typhoon are entitled to receive P10,000 financial assistance on top of the death benefits due, Morente said. 
 
Police Regional Offices in Bicol, Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan), Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas and Caraga regions reported damages to PNP infrastructure and personal property of some policemen.
