Raymund Catindig - The Philippine Star

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – A motorcycle-riding gunman shot dead last Wednesday night a former journalist who became a government lawyer in Bangued, Abra.

Chief Inspector Vic Orcino identified the victim as Jack Turqueza, 47, a former Manila Bulletin correspondent and reporter of Abra Today and Tinig ng Bayan.

Turqueza was administrative officer of the Abra Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.

Turqueza was also on board a motorcycle and was followed by the suspect, who shot the victim in the head and chest at around 6:25 p.m.

The victim died on the spot along Taft Avenue in Bangued, the provincial capital.

Orcino said they have no immediate leads regarding the killing, which they theorized could be related to his work in the prosecutor’s office under the Department of Justice.

Police are also investigating if the motive could be connected to his former job as reporter.

Turqueza was also a former broadcaster of the local radio station dzBA.

Former colleague Dick Bersamira condemned Turqueza’s killing and called on authorities to bring justice to the victim and his family. – With Artemio Dumlao
