NDRRMC, MTRCB ink deal to promote disaster resilience
MANILA, Philippines - The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) on Tuesday signed an agreement that would pave the way for the greater use of media to promote disaster resilience.
The agreement seeks to boost the partnership of the two agencies to promote the culture of preparedness among the public.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by NDRRMC Executive Director Alexander Pama and MTRCB Chair Eugenio Villareal in Camp Aguinaldo.
“This partnership is a proactive position of the NDRRMC and the Office of Civil Defense in furthering the advocacy on disaster risk reduction and management and reinforces the initiatives in building a culture of disaster resilience among Filipinos,” said NDRRMC spokesperson Romina Marasigan.
The agreement, Marasigan added, would widen the reach of materials that seek to educate the public on disaster risk reduction and management.
“MTRCB’s regulatory powers can facilitate the mainstreaming of DRRM (disaster risk reduction and management) concepts in television productions and cinematographic works,” Marasigan said.
Specific details of the agreement will be threshed out by MTRCB and civil defense officials.
Among the activities that may be done under the agreement are the showing of videos on disaster preparedness on theaters and on television and the holding of seminars and dialogues on media literacy.
“We would want to utilize all available resources including media to spread the gospel of disaster preparedness,” Pama said.
