PNP monitors casinos as it starts lifestyle check on cops

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police on Wednesday said it will deploy teams to monitor casinos, bars and night clubs as part of its lifestyle check on its personnel.

PNP Deputy Chief for Administration Deputy Director Felipe Rojas said the investigation and intelligence units will be scouring these shady places and joints if there are policemen frequenting such establishments.

Rojas cited the memorandum circular of the National Police Commission that prohibits any police personnel to engage in regulated gambling or game of chance while on duty.

The directive also bans police officers to be drunk while on or off duty, Rojas said.

"All investigation and intelligence units will conduct inspection and surveillance on all gambling arena, casinos, bars, clubs and other ill-refute dens and initiate proper charges, both administrative and criminal, against those PNP personnel who will violate this directive," he added.

Meanwhile, Rojas reminded all PNP personnel to observe simple standard of living, noting that they are public officials who shall not to indulge in extravagant  lifestyle.
