Still no VP Binay, son in 3rd Senate hearing on Makati parking building

Louis Bacani - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Senate Blue Ribbon sub-committee on Thursday resumed its investigation into the allegedly overpriced Makati City Hall II parking building.

Like in the first two hearings, Vice President Jejomar Binay did not attend the probe this morning.

His son, Makati City Mayor Erwin "Junjun" Binay, was also absent in the third hearing and only sent a letter to the Senate Blue Ribbon sub-committee.

The elder Binay criticized the Senate investigation last week for being biased, politically motivated and intended to malign him and his family.

He said he is only willing to face a "fair" investigation of the controversy.

In a television interview on Monday, Makati Rep. Abigail Binay said there was no formal invite from the Senate panel nor a subpoena that would compel the vice president to attend the inquiry.

The vice president and his son are facing a plunder complaint over the allegedly overpriced parking building. Both have denied amassing kickbacks from the controversial project, which cost the city government more than P2 billion to construct.
