After 3 years, Sharon leaves TV5
MANILA, Philippines - No longer with TV5.
With those four words all in capital letters posted on her Twitter late Friday afternoon, megastar Sharon Cuneta abruptly cut her ties with the Kapatid Network TV5 with which she still has two years remaining in the five-year contract she signed in 2011.
Contacted by The STAR for comment, all that Sharon would say in a texted reply was, “Can’t talk yet; can’t give details as per my lawyer.” Sharon signed up with TV5 after the expiration of her contract with ABS-CBN, her home studio for almost three decades. She was among the big stars who moved from the Kapamilya Network, including Aga Muhlach and Derek Ramsay also when their contracts expired.
In a scoop back then, The STAR reported that Sharon’s contract with TV5 was for P1B spread out for five years. Neither Sharon nor TV5 executives would confirm it.
With TV5, Sharon has starred in three shows: “Kasama Mo, Sharon,” The Mega and The Songwriter” (with Ogie Alcasid, another Kapatid recruit, from the Kapuso Network GMA7) and “Madam Chairman.” She has a pending show titled “My Pirated Family” which would have re-teamed her with Richard Gomez.
Only last week, Sharon announced on her Twitter that she was suffering from depression and midlife crisis, which she clarified happened years ago when she turned 42 (she’s in her late 40s).
Her latest Twitter bombshell was about her quitting TV5, a decision made after, according to STAR sources, she met with her manager, Viva boss Vic del Rosario Jr., last Friday a few hours before she posted her announcement on Twitter.
TV5 executives begged off from making any comment, except to issue this statement: “TV5 wishes to extend its gratitude to Ms. Sharon Cuneta for being part of the Kapatid Network for almost three years. The network wishes her well in all her future endeavors.”
