House panel hears impeachment raps vs PNoy

MANILA, Philippines - The House of Representatives' committee on justice is hearing today the three impeachment complaints filed against President Benigno Aquino III.

The committee meeting set at 9 a.m. will try to determine if the impeachment complaints against Aquino is sufficient in form.

Aquino's first impeachment case was filed on July 21 and accused the President of culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust over the controversial Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP).

The complaint was signed by 28 individuals led by the militant group Bagong Alyansang Makabayan and was endorsed by party-list lawmakers from the Makabayan bloc.

The second complaint filed by youth groups on July 22 and endorsed by Kabataan Party-list Representative Terry Ridon also alleged that the President committed betrayal of public trust and graft and corruption over the DAP.

The third complaint accused Aquino of culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust for crafting the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement of the Philippines and the United States.

It was filed and endorsed by ACT Teachers and Gabriela Party-lists Representatives Antonio Tinio and Emmi de Jesus.
