MANILA, Philippines - A majority of private higher education institutions (HEIs) have no plan to adjust their academic calendar in the next few years, an official of the Philippine Association of Private Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAPSCU) said yesterday.
Jose Paulo Campos, PAPSCU president, said only a handful of HEIs are looking at shifting their school opening from June to August or September.
“Most of our schools are satisfied with the June (school) opening,” Campos said.
He said institutions catering to foreign students and implementing exchange programs are considering a shift in academic calendar.
The Department of Education (DepEd) has maintained the June-March academic calendar for school year 2014-2015 despite the shift in school opening of some universities, including the University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University and the University of Santo Tomas.
The change in academic calendar is supposed to be in preparation for the integration of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations next year.
