Gov't races to prepare for international events

The Philippine Star

BORACAY ISLAND, Philippines (Xinhua) - National and local government agencies are racing against time to prepare for international events which will be held in this island next year.

Niven Maquirang, jetty port administrator, said today that 2015 will be the busiest year for Boracay because of a number of international activities that will take place here. These events include the conference of the chief justices of Association of Southeast Asian Nations in February and meetings of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation in May.

"These events will take place during Boracay's peak season, when thousands of tourists flock to the island. The remaining months of the year would be critical for the government to complete its infrastructure projects here," said Maquirang.

The Philippine government is currently undertaking improvements in the Kalibo International Airport and in the island's ports.

Government enforcement agencies are also preparing the necessary security measures to ensure the safety of guests.
