Phl embassy staff in Libya relocated to Tunisia

Pia Lee-Brago - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - All non-core staff of the Philippine embassy in Libya are being relocated to Tunisia due to the increasing violence and lawlessness in Tripoli, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said yesterday.

The DFA said staff dependents were repatriated last week.

But male officers and staff augmented by the Rapid Response Teams remain in Tripoli to oversee the repatriation of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) under Alert Level 4, which calls for mandatory evacuation.

The DFA raised Alert Level 4, the highest crisis alert, on Libya following the kidnapping and killing of a Filipino worker in Benghazi. There are about 13,000 Filipinos in Libya.

The embassy continues to strongly urge Filipinos to enlist for evacuation before all routes and options become extremely difficult.
