MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has asked the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to help encourage qualified voters to register for the 2016 elections.
In Resolution No. 9887, the Comelec has requested the DILG to cascade down to the barangay level “the importance of mandatory validation of registration since failure to submit for validation will result in deactivation or removal of name from the list of voters.”
The Comelec also noted that registered voters should make sure that they have their biometrics data with the Comelec by validating their registration. Otherwise, they will not be able to vote in 2016.
Around 9.6 million voters nationwide stand to be delisted for not having biometrics data.
The DILG was also asked to provide transportation for the voter registration machines, forms and supplies and Comelec personnel when conducting satellite voter’s registration.
Onsite registration shall be held in barangay halls, public and private schools, commercial establishments and other public places to ensure wide voter registration.
The voter’s registration will run until Oct. 31, 2015.
