No Pinoy in TransAsia plane

Pia Lee-Brago - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - No Filipino was on board the TransAsia Airways passenger plane that crashed while landing in the Taiwanese island of Penghu on Wednesday, according to the Philippine representative office in Taiwan.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said yesterday that “our representative office in Taiwan has confirmed that there are no Filipinos on board the TransAsia plane that crashed.”

Forty-eight people were killed while 10 others were injured after their plane crashed.

Taiwan’s Transport Minister Yeh Kuang-shih said TransAsia Airways flight GE222 had been attempting an emergency landing, which the airline said was necessary because of bad weather.

The wayward plane also damaged a building.

The flight had taken off from Kaohsiung, in the south of Taiwan, bound for Penghu’s Magong airport.
