Myanmar to host 36th ASEAN ministerial meeting on agri, forestry
YANGON (Xinhua) - Myanmar will host the 36th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Agriculture and Forestry and the 14th ASEAN+3 Meeting and related meetings in September, official media reported today.
The meetings are scheduled to take place from Sept. 20 to 26, said the New Light of Myanmar.
The topic on sustainable markets and financial investment in the agricultural sector will be included at the meetings for the sustainable development of agricultural production among the 10 ASEAN countries.
At the coordination meeting in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday, Minister for Livestock, Fisheries and Rural Development U Ohn Myint stressed the need to discuss alleviation of poverty in rural regions and nutrition of rural people.
Minister for Environmental Conservation and Forestry U Win Tun pointed out that it is necessary to talk about protection of mangrove forests as environmental conservation of Myanmar in the meeting.
Myanmar takes the rotating chair of ASEAN this year for the first time after joining ASEAN in 1997.
ASEAN comprises Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
