'Glenda' death toll climbs to 40

MANILA, Philippines — The number of fatalities due to Typhoon "Glenda" has reached 40, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Thursday afternoon.

The agency said those reported dead as of 4 p.m. were from the regions of Ilocos, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Eastern Visayas and Metro Manila.

The number of injured people has also climbed to 17 while four others remain missing.

A total of 882,326 people or 167,293 families in seven regions have been affected by the typhoon.

The NDRRMC said Glenda caused damage to infrastructure and agriculture worth P49.18 million and P1.13 billion, respectively.

It damaged 26,259 houses and rendered 23 roads and two bridges impassable.

The provinces of Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Masbate and Albay, along with 74 municipalities and cities are still experiencing power interruption.
