'Glenda' leaves 1 dead in Eastern Visayas, 2 hurt in Bicol

MANILA, Philippines - One person has been confirmed killed and two more were injured from the onslaught of Typhoon "Glenda" in Bicol and Eastern Visayas on Tuesday.

In its 12 a.m. Wednesday report, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) identified the first confirmed fatality as Lourdes Ongray Lim, 25 of Allen, Northern Samar. She was hit by a fallen electric post.

Antonio Habana, 16 and Jesus Vargas, 82, both residents of Sitio Sta. Cruz, Barangay Nato, Sangay in Camarines Sur were electrocuted and admitted to the Bicol Medical Center.

The NDRRMC also reported that a total of 31,310 families or 136,852 families in Bicol have been evacuated. More than 2,000 families, meanwhile, were evacuated in the provinces of Marinduque, Occidental Mindoro, Samar and Tacloban City.

The agency also said that as of 8 p.m., a total of 6,064 passengers were stranded in at least seven ports.

"Glenda" slammed into Rapu-Rapu town and made another landfall in Tabaco City, both in Albay province, at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., respectively.

A third landfall was recorded at midnight in Catanauan, Quezon.

As of 10:45 p.m., the eye of the typhoon was estimated at 65 kilometers southeast of Alabat, Quezon.

The NDRRMC said it has also received a report of a collapsed barrier of Dario Creek along Shorthhorn Avenue in Quezon City due to the strong flow of water along the creek. Families living in the area have been transferred to safer grounds.

Several roads and bridges in Leyte province and provinces in Bicol were impassable due to floods.

Work in government offices and classes in all school levels have been suspended in Metro Manila and other areas placed under signal number 2.
