Drugs for premature ejaculation launched in Phl

MANILA, Philippines - A local pharmaceutical firm has introduced the first and only drug specifically developed and approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treatment of premature ejaculation in the country.

Menarini Philippines recently launched Dapoxetine to treat premature ejaculation (PE) among Filipino men and improve relationship between couples.

“Men with PE are often reluctant to discuss their condition or are in denial. Their partners, on the other hand, avoid raising the topic for fear of hurting the man’s feelings. This communication gap hinders PE diagnosis and treatment,” Malaysian urologist George Lee En Geap said.

He said men with premature ejaculation problem might have decreased levels of serotonin, which plays a central role in PE.

Seretonin is a neurotransmitter, a chemical messenger in the brain and nervous system.

Studies have shown that adequate levels of serotonin in the junctions between neurons or brain cells help delay ejaculation.

Dapoxetine quickly increases the synaptic levels of serotonin, alleviating the symptoms of premature ejaculation.

“PE is a common condition that could be treated. Women should lead their men to the doctor’s clinic and improve their sexual health and wellbeing,” said Lee. “PE could erode relationships. One in five (20 percent) of men with PE says that PE can lead to relationship breakdown or divorce.”
