Enrile leaves jail for Makati check-up

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — After one night in detention, Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile was allowed to leave his cell for an eye examination in Rockwell Center, Makati City on Saturday.

The 91-year-old plunder respondent left the Philippine National Police (PNP) General Hospital around 7:00 a.m. in a convoy and accompanied by his nurse, according to a radio report.

The consultation at the Asian Eye Center in Rockwell lasted for 30 minutes, after which he was brought back to the PNP hospital room.

The Sandiganbayan Third Division ordered Enrile and his former aide, Jessica "Gigi" Reyes, arrested on Friday for allegedly embezzling P172 million in congressional funds through the pork barrel scam.

Enrile's medical test shortly after his surrender at police headquarters in Camp Crame yielded high blood pressure, causing him to be placed under hospital arrest.
