(UPDATE) 3 Moro rebels killed in Maguindanao clash

MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - At least three members of rogue group Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) were killed while a soldier was injured in an encounter in Maguindanao, a military official said today.

Colonel Dickson Hermoso, spokesman of the Philippine Army's 6th Infantry Division, said the BIFF assaulted a military detachment in Ganta village, Shariff Saydona town in Maguindanao province last night.

Hermoso said the Moro rebels also attacked a security base of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) in Damabalas village, Datu Piang town before dawn today.

He said soldiers manning the detachment of the 61st Division Reconnaissance Company and the MNLF engaged the BIFF in a firefight.
