(UPDATE) Village official shot dead in Cavite

MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - A 38-year old village councilor was killed in an attack in Cavite this morning, police said.

Unidentified suspect riding in a motorcycle shot dead Hilacio Salamat, village official of Paliparan village in Damarinas City, at about 7:00 a.m., said Cavite Provincial Police Office.

The suspect immediately fled after the incident, while the victim was declared dead when he was sent to a nearby hospital.

Four pieces of empty shells of caliber 45 were recovered from the crime scene, police said, adding that further investigation has been underway to apprehend the suspect and to determine the motive of the killing.
