Downpour fails to increase Angat water level

Dino Balabo - The Philippine Star

HAGONOY, Bulacan, Philippines — The heavy downpour in this coastal town and the rest of Bulacan last Friday night did not increase the water level at Angat Dam.

National Power Corp. (Napocor) president Gladys Sta. Rita said the water level again dropped from 180.85 meters above sea level (masl) on Friday to 180.47 masl yesterday morning.

Sta. Rita said the downpour was not caused by cloud seeding operations.

She said cloud seeding over Angat Dam was scheduled to start yesterday depending on the availability of ‘seedable’ clouds.

She added that the cloud seeding team, led by personnel from the Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Soils and Water Management, will use a private airplane rented by the concessionaires of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS).

Sta. Rita said the MWSS hopes to increase water elevation at Angat Dam and prevent a possible disruption on water supply in Metro Manila.
