Binay postpones launch of political party
LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Philippines – Vice President Jejomar Binay yesterday deferred his plan to launch his new political party on June 12.
With the pork barrel and Malampaya fund scams hounding some government officials at this time, Binay said they decided to postpone the announcement of his new party that will carry his presidential bid in 2016.
“We planned to announce it on June 12. But what we hear every day is the issue about Janet Lim-Napoles. I think it is not the right time to talk about politics,†he said.
The Vice President said they will set the announcement of his new political party at the right time.
Binay has decided to leave Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) due to differences with Sen. Aquilino “Koko†Pimentel.
Binay topped the recent Pulse Asia survey of preferred presidential candidates in the 2016 elections.
Meanwhile, Binay said the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) should not be abolished.
“I think SK should continue, but without the elections. The youth representations in cities or municipalities should be continued. SK representatives should be chosen, but not through an election,†he said. – With Jose Rodel Clapano
