Pope to be presented with PhlPost stamp

Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A framed copy of the special Pope Francis stamp issued by the Philippine Postal Corp. (PhlPost) last month will be presented to the Pope as a souvenir next week.

Postmaster General Josefina de la Cruz and Eric Tagle, the agency’s marketing department manager, have left for the Vatican to present the token to Pope Francis on April 16.

The Philippines and Vatican City jointly issued a stamp featuring the head of the Catholic Church on March 21.

PhlPost released copies of the 30 x 40-millimeter Pope Francis stamp sold for P40 each.

Seen in the stamp is the image of a smiling, waving Pope Francis. Below his image is the word “Pilipinas.”

The Pope Francis stamp will be available until March next year.

A total of 90,000 copies of the stamp have been produced.

The “rock star” pope has been named as Time magazine’s Person of the Year. He has also graced the cover of the Rolling Stone magazine.

“I am excited to meet the pope. It is every Catholic’s dream to see the pope,” De la Cruz said in a text message earlier sent to The STAR.

She said the Vatican Post Office will be given 500 sheets of the stamp.
