MANILA, Philippines - United States President Barack Obama is set to visit the Philippines on April 28-29.

This was announced yesterday by Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Cuisia Jr. during the Makati Business Club and Management Association of the Philippines meeting.

The White House announced in February Obama’s visit to the Philippines and three other countries as part of his ongoing commitment to increase US diplomatic, economic and security engagement in the Asia Pacific region.

Obama will travel to Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and the Philippines.

The Philippines will be the fifth Asian ally country Obama will visit during his presidency.

He will meet with President Aquino to highlight both countries’ economic and security cooperation, including the modernization of defense alliance, expansion of economic ties and spark economic growth through the Partnership for Growth, and through their deep and enduring people-to-people ties.

In Japan, Obama will meet with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to highlight the historic steps the US and Japan are taking to modernize the two countries’ 54-year alliance, deepen  economic ties, including the Trans-Pacific Partnership and expand cooperation on a range of diplomatic challenges in the world.

The President will then travel to the Republic of Korea, where he will meet with President Park Geun-hye to reaffirm the US commitment to a strong alliance, review recent developments in North Korea and discuss efforts to promote denuclearization.
