Minor Basilica of San Lorenzo Ruiz (Binondo Church)

Binondo Church highlights the long tradition of Christianity in the society. It is one of the oldest churches built in 1596 with a fine example of Spanish architecture. Binondo Church was founded by the Dominican priests to serve their Chinese converts. The original building was greatly destroyed during the World War II., however, the octagonal bell tower survived. It is also known as the Minor Basilica of San Lorenzo Ruiz, named after their sacristan who was the first Filipino to be canonized. Christine Joy Caloracan (Photo by RP Ocampo)
