PNoy meets with Singapore president
MANILA, Philippines - Singapore President Tony Tan Keny Yam is here for a four-day state visit to boost the relations between the two Southeast Asian nations.
Singapore President Tony Tan Keng Yam, who arrived in the Philippines at 5:45 pm on Wednesday, is visiting the country for the first time to reciprocate President Benigno Aquino III's state visit to Singapore in 2011.
The two presidents are expected to discuss cooperative activities in defense, trade and investment, according to the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO).
Earlier this morning, Tan and his delegation offered a wreath at the monument of Dr. Jose Rizal at the Rizal Park (formerly Luneta) in Manila.
He then proceeded to Malacañang for a courtesy call on President Aquino, who will tender a state luncheon in honor of the Singaporean leader.
According to the PCOO, Tan will also have a dinner with the Singapore community in the Philippines and will meet with the Philippine-Singapore Business Council.
On Saturday, Tan will visit areas ravaged by Super Typhoon Yolanda such as Tacloban, Leyte and Basey, Western Samar. He is expected to hand over medical supplies to the Basey District Hospital.
The PCOO said Singapore was the Philippines’ fourth largest trade partner last year, with total trade amounting to $8.22 billion.
Tan will leave the country on Saturday evening.
