Corona arraignment set today
MANILA, Philippines - Ousted Chief Justice Renato Corona is set to be arraigned on Wednesday for the 12 counts of tax evasion complaints filed by the Department of Justice before the Court of Tax Appeals.
Corona is expected to appear at the CTA in Quezon City around 9 a.m. to enter his plea on the tax evasion raps.
The case stemmed from a complaint filed by the Bureau of Internal Revenue charging Corona of tax evasion and "willful" failure to file his income tax returns for six taxable years between 2003 and 2010.
Corona had posted a total of P120,000 in bail for the 12 counts in tax raps.
Corona was ousted from the High Tribunal on Dec. 12, 2011 after he was found guilty of Article II of the Articles of Impeachment filed against him pertaining to his failure to disclose to the public his statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth.
