DFA lowers alert level in Thailand

Pia Lee-Brago - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) yesterday lowered the crisis alert level in Thailand after the Thai government lifted last week the state of emergency in Bangkok and surrounding areas.

The DFA lowered the crisis alert level from 2 (restriction phase) to 1 (precautionary phase).

Under alert level 1, Filipinos in Bangkok and concerned areas, namely Nonthaburi province, Lad Lum Kaew district of Pathumthani province and Bang Phli district of Samutprakan province, are advised to take necessary precautions.

“There is no ban on the deployment of overseas Filipino workers under Alert Level 1,” the DFA said.

The DFA raised in January the alert level in Bangkok after a state of emergency was declared by the Thai government amid increasing violence brought by anti-government protesters calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.
