JPE rushed to hospital

Marvin Sy - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Senate Minority Leader Juan Ponce Enrile was rushed to an undisclosed hospital last Friday after a blood clot developed in one of his eyes.

Enrile’s media officer Lizette Nepomuceno yesterday confirmed that the senator underwent an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) at the hospital last Friday.

“His MRI test showed normal results and he has already been discharged from the hospital,” Nepomuceno said.

An ABS-CBN report quoted Enrile’s son Jack as saying that the 90-year-old senator was brought to the hospital just “to rule out any suspicion.”

The younger Enrile also said that his father was advised by his doctors to undergo a thorough checkup.

In September last year, Enrile was also confined after his blood pressure shot up due to an obstruction in his urethra.

Enrile, who has been accused of plunder in connection with the pork barrel scam, celebrated his 90th birthday with friends and family last Thursday night at a hotel in Makati City.
