VFA Commission exec quits

MANILA, Philippines - Retired Army general Edilberto Adan resigned as executive director of the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) Commission last month, according to informed sources.

Malacañang has yet to announce his replacement.

Sources said Adan submitted his resignation through the Office of Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. and it took effect last Jan. 16.

“We don’t know the reason why he resigned,” an insider said.

Another source said Adan has been offered a high-paying job in the private sector.

Sources said Adan has endorsed retired Rear Admiral Amable Tolentino, Department of Foreign Affairs intelligence and security chief, as his replacement.

However, Malacañang is reportedly eyeing retired Armed Forces chief Gen. Eduardo Oban, presently an undersecretary of the Department of Transportation and Communications.

Oban served as Clark Development Corporation chairman following his retirement as Armed Forces chief in December 2011.

Adan is president of the Association of Generals and Flag Officers, which is comprised mostly of retired military generals.
