China gives 800 MT of rice to typhoon areas

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Despite the ongoing conflict with the Philippines over the West Philippine Sea and the Rizal Park hostage crisis, the Chinese government continues to give assistance to survivors of Typhoon Yolanda.

A cargo vessel with 800 metric tons of rice donated by the Chinese government arrived at the Port of Cebu on Feb. 1 for the typhoon victims, the Chinese embassy said yesterday.

The rice donation was consigned to the National Food Authority (NFA).

“This is the latest disaster relief effort made by China after providing in-kind assistance carried by three cargo planes, two medical teams and the hospital ship Peace Ark in 2013,” the embassy said.

China has also offered to donate prefabricated houses to Yolanda victims.

The Chinese government offered the food donation after Philippine government officials held a briefing on Reconstruction Assistance on Yolanda for its development partners on Dec. 18, 2013.
