CHR urges AFP to help monitor military facilities

Rhodina Villanueva - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) has appealed to the military to cooperate with them in monitoring military facilities in compliance with the Anti-Torture Act.

Lawyer Marc Titus Cebreros, chief of the CHR information and communication division, said military camps are also covered by the law.

“In the first place, the Armed Forces is prohibited by law from keeping people in detention. So the CHR must make sure that first, the AFP is complying with this prohibition and second, it’s not maintaining any detention facility,” Cebreros said.
