Tytana team bags top award in cooking tilt

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - All is well for Tytana in the gastronomic front. Three BS Holistic Nutrition with Culinary Arts (BSHNCA) students from the Manila Tytana Colleges ensured this when they romped away with one of the top awards in the 2014 Umami Culinary Challenge at the SMX Center, SM Mall of Asia last Jan. 28.

The trio of Ryan Soria, Leslie Muzar, and Josiah Capili, all sophomore students, concocted a dish called “flavors of wellness” that won them the championship in the Eat Well, Live Well Category of the competition.

Prof. Geraldine Maglalang, Faculty Member of Tytana’s BS HNCA program, coached the team.

The Ajinomoto-sponsored event gathered Culinary and Nutrition students from 51 schools all over Luzon in a competitive demonstration of skills in healthy cooking.

It was Tytana’s maiden participation in the competition that also featured a quiz bee part simulating some questions that are usually included in the Nutrition board examination.

Umami literally means “good taste” in Japanese. It is a taste sensation that is meaty and savory as a result of amino acids and nucleotides production during the preparation.
