Lacson: Casualties still being retrieved in Tacloban

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Presidential Assistant for Rehabilitation and Recovery Secretary Panfilo Lacson said more bodies are being recovered in areas hit by super typhoon Yolanda.

In a briefing, Lacson said authorities recovered six bodies in Tacloban City last Friday despite the government stopping the death toll at 6,201.

“This is not alarming because they (National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council) did not close the count,” Lacson said. “It’s impossible (to close the count) because of the intensity of the storm surge. We can never really close the count of fatalities,” he added.

Lacson asked the public not to tag the government as inefficient as same incidents also happened in other parts of the world.

"You never know, there might just be people pinned down, washed away in different islands. Others from far places no longer waited for the government and buried their relatives themselves,” Lacson said.

He added that in cases of calamities, it is difficult to recover a new body.
