ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines (Xinhua) - A member of the rogue group, Abu Sayyaf, who is believed to be involved in the kidnapping of three public school teachers, was captured by government security forces in Mindanao today, a police official said.

Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, spokesman of Police Regional Office 9, identified the Abu Sayyaf member as Jun Akilan aka Temeng. Akilan is said to be part of Abu Sayyaf's urban terror group.

Huesca said members of the Philippine National Police and Task Force Zamboanga raided a safe house of the group in Talabaan village, Zamboanga City at 3 a.m.

He said police recovered a caliber 45 pistol from Akilan who did not resist arrest.

Police said Akilan participated in the abduction of three public school teachers near Sacol Island in January 2009.
