DSWD honors STAR, partners

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has recognized The Philippine STAR as the Most Supportive Newspaper as part of its Gawad Ulat awards launched during the agency’s recent 63rd founding anniversary celebration.

The Most Supportive award is bestowed on newspapers, radio and TV stations that provide the most extensive and positive coverage on DSWD programs, projects and services through its news programs or stories.

GMA News TV and dzRH won the Ulat Award for television and radio, respectively.

STAR reporter Rainier Allan Ronda was among several beat reporters who also received a Gawad Ulat award. He was joined by Ellalyn de Vera of Manila Bulletin, Cynthia Balana of Philippine Daily Inquirer and Leilani Junio of PNA.

The Gawad Ulat awards are part of the PaNata Ko sa Bayan, or the Pagkilala sa Natatanging Kontribusyon sa Bayan awards, which acknowledge the efforts of individuals, groups or organizations whose panata or vow is to share their resources and time in providing a better opportunity for the disadvantaged sectors.

Also recognized at the awards rites were international and local development partners, non-government organizations and LGUs.

Social Welfare Secretary Corazon Soliman expressed her gratitude to all the agency’s partners.

“We could not have performed our mandate well without your support,” she said.
