Taguig hosts radio-controlled kite exhibition
MANILA, Philippines - The Taguig City government on Monday night hosted a radio-controlled kite show at the helipad area of the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) featuring the “Go Fly Kite†team of Singapore.
The show, which was attended by Senator Alan Peter Cayetano and his wife, Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, was a thanksgiving event for the donations and relief goods raised during the “Bayanihan RoRo†mission to calamity-affected areas in Visayas last month.
“This holiday season is a very good time to count our blessings. With the series of calamities that affected our country, we should be thankful that the bayanihan spirit took over and made the tragedies a little bit easier to bear,†Mayor Cayetano said.
“We also hope that this will symbolize our hope and aspiration that the Yolanda victims would recover and fly high again.â€
“Go Fly Kite†was established in Singapore in 1998 by radio-controlled plane hobbyist Michael Lim.
Lim wanted to give hobbyists the chance to experience the feeling of flying remote-controlled planes and helicopters at a much lower cost and the merger of traditional kites and radio control technology did just that.
The first radio-controlled kite was launched in 2000 and a year later, the company “Go Fly Kite†was established.
Each radio-controlled kite can be fitted with light emitting diodes (LEDs) and even laser lights to give them a “spaceship-like†feel and look when flown at night.
The Taguig City government said it decided to stage the kite show instead of a traditional fireworks display as it is environmentally safer. - Mike Frialde
