Remains of 7 OFWs arriving from Yemen

MANILA, Philippines - The remains of the seven Filipino medical workers killed in a suicide car bomb attack last Dec. 5 at the Defense Ministry complex in Sana’a, Yemen will arrive in Manila today.

Foreign Affairs spokesman Raul Hernandez said four of the remains would be at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport at 6:50 a.m. while the rest would arrive at 3:55 p.m. at the Clark International Airport in Pampanga.

He assured the victims’ families that they would receive compensation from the hospital management equivalent to one-year salary of their relatives.

The 27 Filipino survivors will also get compensation equivalent to their three months salary. The repatriation of the survivors is now being arranged.

Yemeni President Abdo Rabbo Hadi expressed regret for the tragedy and declared last week the Filipino workers “are martyrs.”

In a meeting with Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Jesus Yabes, Yemeni Foreign Minister Abu Bakr Al-Qirbi conveyed his government’s condolences to the families of the victims.
