MANILA, Philippines - Filipino teachers are needed in Papua New Guinea.

Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said yesterday Papua New Guinea is recruiting teachers and lecturers from the Philippines for high-paying jobs.

“About 81 teachers and lecturers are urgently needed,” she said.

Baldoz said the deployment of teachers is part of the newly signed bilateral agreement between the Philippines and Papua New Guinea.

The annual salaries of qualified applicants range from P758,224 to P844,144, she added.

Baldoz said the teachers will work in Papua New Guinea’s Department of Education.

Qualified recruits will be petitioned on a working visa, she added.

Baldoz said needed are lecturers on physics, biology, biological technology, building architecture, civil engineering, surveying, drafting, economics, management and  electrical engineering.

Applicants who meet the requirements will be  shortlisted and representatives of Papua New Guinea’s Department of Education will interview them, she added.

The Philippines and Papua New Guinea have forged a five-year bilateral agreement spelling out the framework for areas of cooperation on matters relating to labor.

Based on Philippine Overseas Employment Adminsitration records, deployment of Filipino workers to Papua New Guinea has been on an uptrend for the last four years.

About 23,230 Filipinos are in Papua New Guinea, 92.5 percent of whom work in production and manufacturing, professional services, administrative, managerial and clerical jobs, and the sales and service sectors.
