Experts to discuss maritime row in Manila forum
MANILA, Philippines - International experts will attend a conference in Manila next month to find alternative approaches in resolving territorial disputes in Southeast Asia.
The Angara Center for Law and Economics is organizing a high-level roundtable discussion titled “What Is to Be Done? Resolving Maritime Disputes in Southeast Asia†at the Marriott Hotel, Resorts World Manila on Dec. 5. The event is sponsored by Asia United Bank.
World-renowned experts like John Nye of George Mason University, Donald Emmerson of Stanford University, Shen Dingli of Fudan University in China, Ian Storey of the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies in Singapore, Yoichiro Sato of the Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in Japan, Shafiah Muhibat of the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Indonesia and Professor Harry Roque of the University of the Philippines will form the panel of speakers.
Former senator Edgardo Angara will be the keynote speaker.
A former UP president, Angara, along with Justice Antonio Carpio, was responsible for the establishment of the UP Institute for Maritime Affairs and Law of the Sea, an academic research institution devoted to maritime affairs.
