Fair weather seen in next 2 days

Ghio Ong, Helen Flores - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Fair weather would continue to prevail over the country in the next two days apart from isolated rains and thunderstorms, state meteorologists said yesterday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the northeast monsoon or amihan was prevailing over northern and central Luzon.

The whole country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with light rains over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

The rest of the country will have isolated rains or thunderstorms.

PAGASA weather forecaster Aldzar Aurelio, however, said the weather agency continues to monitor a “cloud cluster,” which could develop into a low-pressure area.

“We are monitoring a cloud cluster east of Mindanao which could develop into a low pressure area and enter the Philippine area of responsibility tomorrow,” Aurelio told The STAR in a phone interview yesterday.

The Japan Meteorological Agency has already categorized the system as a tropical depression.

Aurelio warned that the developing weather disturbance could hit the areas severely affected by super Typhoon Yolanda as the potential cyclone could have the same track but it would not be as powerful as the hurricane.

The new disturbance could bring heavy rains over the regions later this week.

“Usually the storms that enter the country in the months of November, December, January and February make landfall over the Visayas and Mindanao,” Aurelio added.

He also said that one or two more cyclones are expected to enter the country before the year ends. The cyclones would be given the local names “Zoraida” and “Alamid.”
