PNoy speech tonight on 'current national issues' - Palace exec
MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno Aquino III will deliver a speech on Wednesday evening concerning "current national issues," a Palace official said.
In an interview over radio dzMM, Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Sonny Coloma said Aquino's speech may tackle the controversial Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) or the Priority Development Assistance Fund.
The President's speech is scheduled between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Coloma did not disclose further details, but he clarified that this is not the first time that Aquino will deliver such speech.
In the wake of the pork barrel scam and allegations of government fund misuse, the Aquino administration was recently criticized for the DAP, which was introduced in 2011 to supposedly speed up the economy.
Recent surveys of the Social Weather Stations (SWS) and Pulse Asia also said that the pork barrel mess also affected Aquino's approval ratings.
Results of the SWS survey conducted from September 20 to 23 showed that Aquino's net ratings declined to a "good" score of +49 from a "very good" +64 last June.
Meanwhile, a Pulse Asia survey conducted from September 14 to 27 revealed that the Aquino administration failed to score majority approval ratings on eight of 10 national issues.
The Aquino administration's approval rating on fighting government corruption also declined from 59 percent to 47 percent, the same survey said.
The STAR also reported that Aquino's rating fell from 79 percent to a record low of 35 percent in a survey conducted by Malacañang this month.
