MANILA, Philippines - The barangay elections in southern Metro Manila on Monday were peaceful, the Southern Police District (SPD) reported.
SPD director Chief Superintendent Jose Erwin Villacorte said the elections in the cities of Pasay, Muntinlupa, Taguig, Paranaque, Makati, Las Pinas cities and the municipality of Pateros were generally peaceful with no major untoward incidents reported.
"As of 11 a.m. wala pa naman nagrereport na untoward incident and so far generally peaceful pa rin tayo," he said
Villacorte added that he personally made rounds in Makati, Pasay, Pateros, Taguig and Paranaque.
Vlllacorte said additional police personnel were also deployed to secure schools where the votes will be counted when the precincts close at 3 pm.
Villacorte said police officers were also deployed at help desks outside polling places for the public to report any crime incidents.
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) had earlier tagged Barangay Maharlika in Taguig and Barangay Pio Del Pilar, Makati as area of concern but Villacorte said these areas remained peaceful an hour before the polling precincts closed on Monday afternoon.
