Citi, McDonald’s forge tie-up on Visa payWave

MANILA, Philippines - Citi Philippines and McDonald’s Philippines recently formalized their partnership to accept Citi Visa payWave in selected McDonald’s stores nationwide.

A Citi payWave card is embedded with an antenna and microchip that allows it to communicate with a secure contactless radar when held within close range.

This payment technology is gaining wide acceptance among Asian consumers to pay for everyday, small purchases such as coffee, snacks, even train fare.

Beginning November, selected McDonald’s stores will offer Citi payWave cards and customers will be able to experience settling their bill by simply waving their card in front of the payWave receiver, taking their meal and leaving the counter – all in a matter of seconds.

Citi announced that payWave is initially available in Robinsons Supermarket Express Lanes, Mercury Drug, Eastwood and Lucky Chinatown Cinemas, and Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf.
